gebs It takes a few spins to truly appreciate the depth and talent in this gem of progressive rock/metal, which shifts elegantly from ethereal to pummeling in its 42' runtime. Favorite track: The Lions Roar.

Deej Quintessential prog music, I’ve followed this band for a while now, making a catch up purchase and eagerly awaiting more.

The title track is simply amazing.

Cephalic Miasma I think it is safe to say that this is not the overall strongest Cynic release but there are some wonderful moments here. It has this kind of light airy atmosphere (despite the prominent and creative bass-lines) that reminds me of a Saturday afternoon. Drumming and guitar melodies are great as usual but Paul's voice is a little less processed here and is moved behind the music a little more at many points. Still an excellent offering, if not up to what I think are normal Cynic standards. Favorite track: The Lions Roar.

about

Over four years in the making, 'Kindly Bent to Free Us' is a new apex in the evolution of progressive rock visionaries CYNIC. The album's eight tracks are rich, vibrant, and evocative, and the mark of a band that are masters of their craft. As "True Hallucination Speak", "The Lion's Roar", and the title track personify, CYNIC 2014 is transcendent. Without a doubt, 'Kindly Bent to Free Us' is CYNIC's tour de force and yet another crescendo in the band's illustrious, ground-breaking career.
